How To Eat A Flexitarian Diet The Right Way

The flexitarian diet is a wonderful way to eat healthfully while still enjoying some of your favorite meals. It allows for flexibility and variety while reducing your environmental impact – but it is important to do it the right way! Here are five tips for getting the most out of your flexitarian lifestyle:

  1. Stick to whole foods as much as possible: Choose plant-based options that are minimally processed, such as fruits, vegetables, beans and legumes, grains, nuts, and seeds. This will help you get more fiber and other essential nutrients in your diet. Avoid processed meats and cheese, which have been linked with increased risk of certain illnesses.
  2. Expand your culinary horizons: Eating a flexitarian diet can be an enjoyable experience if you give yourself opportunities to broaden your cooking repertoire with new recipes or experimenting with different ingredients. Check out cookbooks or apps specifically designed for this type of eating pattern; they often provide delicious plant-based meal ideas that taste just as good (if not better!) than their animal-product counterparts!
  3. Incorporate sources of healthy fat: Healthy fats such as olive oil or nut butter are essential for providing energy and aiding nutrient absorption – so make sure to include them in your meals. Avocados offer one of the highest concentrations of healthy fats but there are plenty other sources to choose from too!
  4. Include high quality proteins: Protein is essential for building strong muscles; try incorporating plant-based proteins such as quinoa, tofu, or tempeh into your meals along with plenty of veggies for added vitamins and minerals. Also consider adding in fatty fish like salmon or mackerel for an extra dose of omega-3s – these can help reduce inflammation levels in your body!
  5. Do not forget about portion control: Even though many plant-based dishes are incredibly nutritious, it is still important to watch how much you are consuming – if you overeat even healthy food it can lead to unwanted weight gain over time. Make sure you are aware of serving sizes on food labels so that you know how much is considered a “portion” when preparing meals at home or dining out at restaurants!

Following a flexitarian lifestyle does not mean depriving yourself! This type of eating plan encourages variety while offering plenty of health benefits – just remember to keep portion sizes in check and incorporate lots of whole foods into each meal for maximum nutrition benefits!
